For those of you who anticipate an academic vocation or postgraduate work after seminary, learning to write a good book review is doubly important. Book reviews provide one of the quickest and easiest ways to get published and to hone your writing ability. For some excellent examples of professionally written book reviews, check out the Review of Biblical Literature (www.bookreviews.org), which is provided by the Society of Biblical Literature. If you are an SBL member already, you can even volunteer to write a review on the website.

Another good idea, although not always necessary, is to consult other reviews (usually in journals) of the book in question and interact with others' critiques. This is a good exercise after the majority of the work has already been done.
