Hi Bradley,

I'm in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)-- a relatively small denomination (though we're growing!). However, I went to the PCA seminary in St. Louis, Covenant, so there were more PCA churches in my city than in many.

That said, I didn't preach at only PCA churches while in seminary. In fact, I didn't preach at ANY PCA churches IN St. Louis while in seminary, though I did preach in a number of PCA churches outside of St. Louis.

I also preached at churches in other presbyterian denominations-- Evangelical Presbyterian (EPC), Associate Reformed Presbyterian (ARP), and Presbyterian Church U.S.A. (PC-USA). I also preached at two Christian Reformed (CRC) churches, two independent Bible churches, at least one Southern Baptist churches, and three or four non-denominational churches.

If there are churches-- especially small churches-- in your area, there are preaching opportunities. Maybe a helpful follow-up post would be how to find preaching opportunities while in seminary. I'll work on that in the next week or so.

Were the majority of the sermons you preached in churches of your denomination? What advice would you give to someone in a small denomination as regarding pulpit supply? That is, what if someone (me) is in a denomination with few churches (the nearest is 1.5hrs away). What would you recommend they do to get more opportunities to preach?
Thanks!
